Self-doubt is quite possibly one of the biggest things that we fight with almost everyday, whether we realize it or not. Thinking that we are either not good enough or not as good as someone else; thinking that we could never do certain things because we either lack the skill or pedigree to do it. Lack of confidence in ourselves and the fear of what others may think about us can play a major part in our day to day lives. It affects the clothes we decide to put on, the car we drive, the way we walk, the words we choose to say or not say and the dreams we either go for or just push to the back of our minds.
I remember when I did the “big chop”, which meant that I took my long hair and cut it all off into a mini afro. I was going to grow my hair into dreadlocks but I had unnatural hair that needed to be cut in order to do it. A lot of people then and even now are terrified of this stage because you essentially have little to no hair, and the fear is that it looks weird. Let me tell you…. I rocked my little to no hair and enjoyed every phase of my tiny locks. Now they’re long enough that they reach down the middle of my back. It took time and it definitely took confidence, but I’m so happy that I did it.
Self confidence will make you try things you’ve never tried before. It frees you from the prison of other people’s thoughts. If you live to please other people, you will never live a day in your life because you can never please everyone. There will always be someone out there who dislikes what you’re doing, how you look, how you talk and what you wear.
Be confident in who you are and what you do. If there’s something you wish you could do or do better, grab a book and learn how to do it. As a matter of fact enroll in what I like to call “Youtube University”! It’s free and there are tutorials on just about everything. You can do anything you put your mind to do, you just have to be willing to put the work in. But dont ever doubt yourself because self doubt will keep you trapped and stuck in a life of shouldn’t, can’t & won’t.
